Judas Priest: Unleashed in the East Best Hard Rock + Metal Albums of 1979 Normally, we disqualify live albums from these lists, but Judas Priest’s ‘Unleashed in the East’ was (a) simply a seminal cherry-picking through the heavy metal pioneers’ ‘70s discography and (b) not really recorded “live” to begin with (i.e. lots of studio overdubs), so there. That’s all the loopholes we need to wax enthusiastic about genuine metallic cornerstones like “Exciter,” “Sinner,” “The Ripper” and “Victims of Changes,” which were rendered here in streamlined, souped-up and sizzling fashion, ready for Priest to carry on their conquering ways into the ‘80s.
