Basically, the former beat the latter for the 1992 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. After seeing the music video for “Man in the Box,” Sammy Hagar offered them something arguably better: the chance to open for Van Halen as they supported For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

Lasting from August ’91 to May ’92, the trek found Van Halen highlighting “Panama,” “Jump,” and “Right Now” while Alice in Chains honored Facelift and previewed Dirt (via “Would?”). Undoubtedly, it did wonders for Alice in Chains’ career.
