Jimi Hendrix Axed Off by Former Manager, CIA and Mafia
Another member of the “27 Club,” Hendrix famously died on Sept. 18, 1970 after aspirating vomit and succumbing to asphyxia. That is, unless you buy into the idea that he was murdered by manager Mike Jeffrey. As rock roadie James “Tappy” Wright tells it, he spent time with Jeffrey — who apparently had connections to the mob, CIA and MI16 — shortly after the tragedy. Wright heard him acknowledge that he was behind everything. The reason? Jeffrey wanted to claim a $2 million life insurance policy he’d recently taken out on Hendrix. Supposedly, Jeffrey had spies trailing Hendrix before the deed was done, and had him kidnapped just so Jeffrey could save him. That supports the notion that Jeffrey had someone else kill the iconic guitarist (either the mafia or a government agency). However, Jeffrey may have done it himself by giving Hendrix a lot of wine and pills. In any case, Jeffrey died in a mid-air collision in March 1973, so the full details and authenticity of his tale will never be known.
