Neil Turbin Rips Scott Ian for ‘Fabricating Lies’ in Book
Ex-Anthrax singer Neil Turbin has slammed guitarist Scott Ian for “fabricating lies” about his split with the band over 30 years ago to “draw attention” to Ian’s upcoming autobiography ‘I’m The Man: The Official Story of Anthrax.’
In an excerpt from the book, which will arrive in stores on Oct. 14, via Da Capo Press, Ian goes into deep detail about what he calls “the worst moment for me in the history of Anthrax." He claims that Turbin fired Danny Lilker without consulting with the other band members after their debut album ‘Fistful of Metal’ was released back in 1984.
In the book Ian writes that Neil became “ultra-cocky” and felt like “he was the boss man.” He adds that Turbin fired Lilker without the permission of the rest of the group simply because “Danny is taller than him.” Ian continues, “He honestly didn't think someone should be taller than the frontman onstage. He thought it made him look bad, so he tried to stand as far away from Danny as possible, which was hard when we were playing stages the size of ping pong tables."
Turbin took to his blog and shot back at Ian writing, "It's been great to see Anthrax’s success throughout all the years. I'm very happy for all the current and former members who got to be part of it. However, I find it very sad that somebody I've had no contact for 30 years feels that it's necessary to fabricate lies about me in order to draw attention to themselves."
He added, “I wish them all the luck in the world on their new work of fiction. I'm sure it must be as good as 'The Lord Of The Rings.'"
Neil Turbin will head out on the road with Onslaught, starting in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Oct. 23.
As mentioned, Scott Ian’s ‘I’m The Man: The Official Story of Anthrax’ will arrive on Oct. 14. You can pre-order the autobiography here.
In other Anthrax news, the band recently released their Chile on Hell DVD, which features the band performing some of their biggest hits including ‘Indians,’ ‘Among the Living,’ ‘Caught in a Mosh,’ ‘I’m the Law” and a great cover of AC/DC’s ‘T.N.T.’
