Rockers Whose Bands Tried to Erase Them - Bob Kulick
Bob Kulick was basically asked to ghost play for Kiss' Ace Frehley, receiving no initial acknowledgement. That's him on three tracks ("All American Man", "Rockin' in the U.S.A." and "Larger Than Life") from 1977's Alive II. That's also him on "Naked City" from 1980's Unmasked, which was likewise falsely credited to the band's original foursome. Kulick later played on a quartet of uncredited new tracks for the 1982 import compilation Killers, as well. Kulick held onto his secret for many years. "It was important to me that when they said ‘This has to be between us and us only,' that I’m going to keep my word," he told UCR in 2018. "It’s all about integrity, and that’s how I’m able to keep going." Kulick was featured on Stanley's 1978 solo album as well – though this time, he was actually named in the liner notes.
