The Doors Call It Quits After the Loss of a Member The Doors’ story after the death of Jim Morrison was a bit murkier than that of Led Zeppelin or Nirvana. The circumstances surrounding Morrison’s death were even murkier, but that’s a tale for another time. The eccentric frontman died in Paris in 1971 while his bandmates, Robby Krieger, John Densmore and Ray Manzarek were working on the album Other Voices. Morrison was supposed to return to perform the vocals for the record, so Manzarek and Krieger decided to split the duties. They followed suit with its follow-up, 1972’s Full Circle, as well. But, in ’73, The Doors pulled the plug. Krieger and Densmore considered finding a new singer, and called themselves the Butts Band since Manzarek decided not to participate in the project. There’ve been reunions over the years, including the time The Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and a couple of other monumental events. But The Doors’ true legacy was laid to rest with Morrison in the Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. Loudwire
