Who do you like better David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar? David Lee Roth. Van Halen with Sammy Hagar introduced more keyboards and songs about love which made it difficult for me to follow. Van Halen with DLR had a darker sound and was more hard rock. |

David lee Roth is an awesome frontman and leaves Sammy for dead in that department. The music changing under Sammy was not his fault, Eddie Van Halen wanted to try a different direction.
David Lee Roth was an alcoholic and sometimes live couldnt remember the words. I saw them in 2012 with DLR and they sounded terrible. Apparently Eddie was ill and they canceled there tour after the next concert. It was sad to see a sucky Van Halen because I really like them.

Which was one of the reasons DLR left the band, he didn't like the direction Eddie was going in. I don't mind songs like "Jump" and "I'll Wait", with keyboards on the 1984 album, but even Ted Templeman (VH's record producer) questioned those songs, reinforcing VH as a hard rock band, although "Jump" did quite well with the fans. Sammy Hagar - "Why can't this be love", DLR - "Aint talkin' bout love". By 2012 DLR's voice was terrible. Sammy made a comment - "if I performed like that, I'd be sacked from the band". |
